Description:
Understanding and mastering word formation in the language of dental medicine and medicine in general, as well as acquiring and applying professional terminology and linguistic structures specific to the field of dentistry. Acquiring and practicing passive structures and indirect questions. Learning how to write presentations and abstracts of professional papers, including model presentation, feature analysis, guided writing, and ultimately independent writing of specified formats, while respecting their linguistic and formal characteristics. Developing skills for productive language use (both spoken and written), and skills for receptive language use (reading and listening comprehension). Applying features of general English to the professional language of dental medicine, practicing independent public speaking in English (presentation skills), practicing communication with patients, and establishing habits for using dictionaries and other grammatical and linguistic manuals.
Seminar topics may be linguistic or professional in nature, and related to the lecture titles. Recent developments in the fields of dental medicine and medicine in general are also acceptable. Students choose their own topics, but must consult with the instructor during the selection process.
